No. You do not need to be super fit to begin your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training. The best way to get fitter is to train BJJ and there are members of all levels of fitness at Alliance BJJ Brisbane.
No. You do not need previous experience in other martial arts although if you have already trained in a different martial art that’s fine too.
You are never too old to start training BJJ. Train to your own limits and push yourself as hard you want to.
Size is unimportant in BJJ as you learn and perfect techniques to submit your opponent rather than using size or strength.
You do not need to be super strong to start training BJJ, although you’ll find your strength improves through regular training. Submissions are based on technique not strength so it is not essential.
On your first lesson bring some basic fitness clothing eg shorts and t- shirt and we can provide a gi for you to wear for your free trial. A water bottle is also a good idea.
You do not need protective equipment although a lot of students choose to wear a mouth guard when rolling.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is an excellent form of self-defense and is a core area of training. We pay particular focus to self-defense in our women’s only class.
You can train as little or as often as you want to or however many classes fit into your lifestyle. We have membership options that cover everyone.
On average when participating in regular training a blue belt takes 1-2 years to achieve.
A black belt can take 10+ years of training and lots of hard work to achieve.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is commonly known as the gentle art and is not scary to participate in. We take care of each other at Alliance BJJ Brisbane and are proud of the friendly atmosphere at the club.
